January is not my favourite time of the year. I hate the unseemly hurry to shed the previous year and dive right into the new one – head first and with reckless abandon. In the space of one night we shift from rest, frivolity and fun, into resolutions, must’s, should’s and the push to take immediate action. The overriding message is that if you don’t start the year running at full pelt you’ll somehow miss out!
It is for this reason for many years now I no longer make resolutions. This does not mean that I stumble into each year with no idea of what I want to achieve – far from it. I just step slowly into the new year, feel my way into it gently, allowing myself the space and the time to reflect on what has been, acknowledge what I have achieved, to celebrate my successes and consolidate the lessons I choose to take from the old year into the new. From THIS space, I begin to move forward.
So if you are like me and need some time to adjust, plan, prioritise, breathe, and then act….give yourself permission to do just that. We have a whole year in front of us and we will still achieve great things - but it DOES NOT all have to be by the 31st January!
Build your year and the planned successes of your year from this space –
Reflect, Plan, Prioritise, Breathe then ACT.
A happy and successful 2017 to us all and I look forward to continuing to work, serve, support and share with you over the next 12 months.
