Why I’m Finally Starting My Podcast (After Not Launching It in 2023)

Updated: Apr 15

This is the thinking behind the Proactive Empowered Careers podcast. The podcast is now live.

Gentle waves lapping on a quiet beach with the sun trying to burst through a cloudy sky, representing reflection and space for thinking about careers - Patricia Ezechie
Where a lot of this thinking happens.

It’s taken me a long time to start this podcast.

Not because I didn’t have anything to say.

But because I wanted it to feel right.

A few years ago — I think it was 2023 — I recorded the first three episodes.

And I didn’t release them.

At the time, I told myself it might be perfectionism.

Or timing.

Or that I just wasn’t ready.

But looking back, that wasn’t quite it.

What I realise now is that it didn’t feel complete.

It felt like I was starting in the middle of something…without having properly brought together everything that sat underneath it.

Because the work I’m doing — and have been doing for years — isn’t just a set of ideas.

And that takes time to articulate properly.

Over the past couple of years, that thinking has deepened.

Through conversations.

Through coaching.

Through working with people at very different stages of their careers.

And slowly, it’s taken shape.

Not just as individual insights…

But as something more cohesive.

So now, I’m about to release the podcast.

It goes live next week.

It’s called Proactive Empowered Careers.

It’s not a “career advice” podcast in the traditional sense.

And it’s not about quick fixes or step-by-step solutions.

It’s about something slightly different.

It’s about understanding what sits underneath how we think about our careers.

Because your career isn’t separate from who you are.

It’s an expression of you — and the life you want to live.

I had a moment this week that made me smile.

I was walking on the beach — as I often do — listening back to one of the episodes.

And I caught myself thinking:

"This isn’t flowing the way I want it to."

My instinct was to go back and re-record it.

Make it better.

Make it smoother.

Make it “right”.

And then I heard something on another podcast.

She said something about how we can get in our own way by trying to make things perfect.

And that often, the people who actually move forward…

are the ones who simply do their best — and share it.

That hit home.

So that’s what I’ve done.

I’ve done my best.

I’ve stayed true to the work.

And I’m going to share it.

It’s something I care deeply about.

And something I’m looking forward to inviting you into.

I’ll share the link with you next week when it goes live. ❤️
