There’s a powerful moment in every midlife transformation, and it's a moment I see time and time again in my coaching work.

It’s the moment a client finally says: “This is not for me.”

It sounds so simple.

But behind those five words lie months, sometimes years, of doubt, reflection, and spiralling around a decision. It’s the moment when all the questions — Why isn’t this working? Why don’t I feel like myself? Why can’t I just make it work? — finally crystalise into one hard, honest truth:

This is no longer who I am.

It’s not a decision made lightly.

It’s a decision forged in the fire of self-awareness, after giving it everything you’ve got, and trying every way you know to make it fit.

It’s the moment you realise:

• This role no longer reflects who I’ve become.

• It doesn’t align with my values.

• It doesn’t honour the skills and passions I’m here to share.

• I’m not shining or thriving here.

  
  

Naming that truth is an act of profound bravery.

It means letting go of a story you’ve lived, and honouring the grief that comes with it. But it’s also making space for what’s next — the excitement, the possibility, the fear, and the anticipation of who you’re becoming.

Because in that moment, you’re not just closing a door. You’re opening a thousand others.

This is the work:

• To spiral around the decision, knowing every turn brings you closer to the heart of what you want.

• To acknowledge the grief and the excitement.
