# CHALLENGE 4 Eat a Rainbow!

The link between mood, food and energy is well established and we all know that eating a healthy and varied diet can have profound effects on both our physical and mental wellbeing. Food is medicine and good nutrition is the basis of keeping both our minds and bodies healthy.

So as part of Mental Health Awareness Week your challenge for today should you choose to take it is to ‘eat a rainbow’ (and not of the sweetie variety!). In addition to rather instead of your daily eating habits- whatever they are as this is not about judgement or trying to convince you that one way of eating is better than another, eat a variety of different coloured fruit and veg – your mind and body will thank you.

Research has shown the link between the gut and the brain, and how the healthy bacteria in our guts (microbiome), support mood, brain health, immune function as well as a healthy weight, while poor gut health is beginning to be linked to serious mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
